A New Favorite – M by Mirai

Whenever I visit Bahrain, I like to try a new restaurant. There are so many fantastic ones to choose from these days that I’m always hesitant to repeat any….until now. I’ve been to M by Mirai twice in the past month and I’m already planning my next visit – it’s that good!

Conveniently located in Seef, the interior is small but beautiful.

We started with an order of chicken gyoza and spicy edamame.

The gyoza was flawless – delicate and flavorful. The edamame was also good, but I think I prefer edamame with just salt.

For our main dishes, we had beef tataki and fried chicken bao buns.

The bao buns were delicious – the buns were lightly chewy clouds, and the chicken was crisp and bursting with flavor. The pickled vegetable topping was bright and set off the rich flavor of the chicken wonderfully.

But the beef tataki was AMAZING. I don’t know if I’ve ever used all caps in a blog post before but this dish deserves it. TWICE.

Thinly sliced, seared marinated beef served cold and topped with a bright, acidic drizzle of vinegar/citrus and herbs, scattered with crisp slivers of fried garlic…. my mouth is watering just remembering it. This is one of the best dishes I’ve had in ages! It is perfectly balanced, the richness of the meat, the bright tanginess of the topping, it is so beautiful. You must order this!

Each dish was light and not overly filling….which meant we had more than enough room for dessert. And when I see chocolate ice cream on a menu, I can never refuse. It was, like everything else we had, delicious.

The setting, the service, and the food were all great. M by Mirai is fantastic and I can’t wait to go back.

Bao buns seem to be the new “thing” in Bahrain–they’re popping up everywhere!
