In the Kitchen with Chef Wolfgang Puck

Last week I received an invitation that made my heart skip a beat – Four Seasons Bahrain Bay and Wolfgang Puck, what a magical combination!

Four Seasons Bahrain Bay just opened this year and I was thrilled to have the chance to check it out. From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I knew that it was going to be just as special as I had imagined.

It is, undoubtedly, the most stunning lobby in Bahrain. It is fresh and opulent, with lovely decor, real olive trees, and sky-high windows offering spectacular views of the city from the hotel’s own private island. As if that wasn’t enough, the staff was on point. I’m really picky about customer service and I have to say that everyone I met at Four Seasons did their job impeccably.

I was whisked up to my room and had to ask if there had been some mistake, I didn’t book a room this large, did I? The attendant assured me there was no mistake, this was just the size of an average room. Acres of fresh and sumptuous luxury! The picture below was taken with my back to the floor-to-ceiling windows that gave a view out to the sea.

If I didn’t have such a fun event to attend that night I would have been more than happy to spend all evening luxuriating in that fabulous room. But the Four Seasons Taste Tour could not be missed! We had been invited to the opening of Four Season’s Wolfgang Puck restaurants, Bahrain Bay Kitchen, CUT, and re.

We started in Bahrain Bay Kitchen, a sprawling buffet-style restaurant filled with so many different, delicious cooking stations that I had an almost impossible task of choosing where to start.

If you thought the entrees were stunning, just wait till you see the desserts….

Even though I knew we still had two more restaurants to visit, I couldn’t help myself…I feasted! It was all perfectly delicious, but my favorite dishes were the beef short ribs, the stuffed potatoes, and, of course, the chocolate macaroons.

After Bahrain Bay Kitchen we were escorted back to the dazzling lobby where we enjoyed drinks and small bites and visiting with fellow foodies – always a favorite for me.

(Thank you to the lovely and talented Moya of Food and Tools for the above two photos, of me and Hungry Fifi and Blonde in Bahrain!)

After our stay in the lobby we were led onward to re, an Asian restaurant perched high atop the hotel with a truly breathtaking view. The whole city lay below us, twinkling and gorgeous….and unpictured. At this point I was introduced to some very entertaining people and between listening to their stories, grabbing bites to eat, and enjoying the view, my camera was neglected.

After enjoying the tastiest Asian-fusion bites I’ve ever had, we were ushered down to CUT, straight into the kitchen, and at this point I had no choice but to pull out my camera because there was the man of the hour, Chef Wolfgang Puck himself, manning the grill. He managed to cook plate after plate of the most tender, juicy, amazing steaks, sliders, and ribs, while chatting and laughing with the crowd. It was an honor to watch him work!

Thoroughly stuffed, I rolled myself up to my room and cuddled into the dreamily comfortable bed. I wish all hotels had beds like this! (And I have to say a quick word about the bedding. I’m allergic to down so I always request feather-free bedding when I stay at hotels, and all too often I’m met with scratchy, ugly bedding that looks like it belongs at some seedy youth hostel, not at a fine hotel. So when I saw the piles of cloudy, luxurious bedding waiting for me at the Four Seasons, I thought there was a mistake and that I’d been given the down bedding by mistake. But, no, it was feather-free and gorgeous!)

The next morning I woke up, somehow hungry again, and ventured downstairs to check out the breakfast buffet at Bahrain Bay Kitchen, and who did I see? Chef Wolfgang Puck! He was having breakfast with the press and I was invited to meet him and he was kind enough to autograph his new cookbook for me. What an unexpected and wonderful surprise!

What an amazing experience! Four Seasons Bahrain Bay has seriously elevated the game in Bahrain, with food and hospitality. The staff was unobtrusive but always ready to assist and the attention to detail in everything from the decor, the layout of the rooms, the menu, to the food was perfection. I can’t wait to return!

The Four Seasons looks totally opulent! The food looks like it is heavenly. I’ve had a little peek at the place, just the weekend gone by, and was suitably impressed. That lobby with the olive trees is something else! Had an absolutely divine, if ludicrously overpriced, grilled cheese at the Cut lounge. What I like the most about that lounge – non smoking indoor bar! YES!

Looks like you had an amazing time 🙂
